Plot ideas

Inspiration for writing can come from all sorts of unlikely places. Photographs, a view, a magazine/newspaper article, a phrase, a snatch of conversation, a situation. There are even internet sites which suggest scenarios. So no one need ever be short of ideas.

I do occasionally struggle for a new plots but rarely use any of the above. Something usually springs to mind when I am not even thinking about it. I guess my subconscious is at work when that happens.

Although, I must confess that I did use an internet site’s suggestions for the book I am working on at the moment. The scenario I chose was something like this:

A secretive 25 year old woman

Loneliness

A moonlit beach

An adventurous 35 year old man

And to my surprise it has worked!

Do you think there is anything else that could be added to my inspiration list?

Interested to know which site you used, Margaret. My ideas usually spring from something relatively trivial, but once the seed is planted, it starts to grow.
Good luck with your new book!

Paula, Unfortunately I didn’t make a note of the site. But I agree about the seed. And the more we feed it the more it grows.
