Margaret Mayo, Romance Author

The Next Big Thing

Christina Hollis, who you can meet at http://www.christinahollis.blogspot.com is the author of Lady Rascal and has kindly invited me to take part in a blog event entitled THE NEXT BIG THING. – a series of questions and answers about what is happening in my writing life. So here goes…

What is the title of your new book?

A Secret Too Far

How did you come by the idea?

All of my ideas actually come the same way – while I’m lying in bed at night trying to go to sleep. I play the “What if?” game. And this time I asked myself what would happen if someone lost their memory and treated you as a stranger the next time you met. The consequences of memory loss have been devastating for my heroine but you’ll have to read my book to find out why.

What genre does your book fall under?

Contemporary Romance

Which actors would you choose to play your characters if it were a movie?

My hero would be played by Heath Ledger because he exactly typifies who I had in mind, and I’d like Jennifer Anniston to play my heroine.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

An intriguing tale of reunited lovers.

Will the book be self-published or traditional?

This book is self-published as an e-book – an exciting new venture for me.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

I’m not a fast writer so it takes me about three months. I do try, though, to make my first draft as good as I can, often going over parts again and again, so there is not much re-writing to do afterwards. I’m also constantly back-tracking to ensure everything makes sense.

What else about my book might pique the reader’s interest?

Wondering what my hero’s reaction is going to be when he finds out about heroine’s secret.

I hope you will enjoy reading A Secret Too Far – which is my first go-it-alone e-book, and many thanks to Christina Hollis for giving me the chance to take part in “The Next Big Thing”.

I should be handing over the baton to another romantic novelist at this stage, but everyone I’ve invited has either already taken part or is too busy with writing and Christmas. So hopefully in the New Year…
