November contest

  • Posted on October 27, 2011 at 3:24 pm

November’s 3 in 1 BY REQUEST includes my book THE BILLIONAIRE’S BLACKMAIL BARGAIN (originally called THE BILLIONAIRE’S BLACKMAIL BABY BARGAIN.)

I’m in the excellent company of Heidi Betts and Elizabeth Power, with their books BLACKMAILED INTO BED and BLACKMAILED FOR HER BABY respectively.

I have a few copies to give away but as they’re quite heavy I’m limiting them to UK readers. So if anyone wants to be in with a chance – simply e-mail me here

Return a Stranger

Do the characters on book covers ever look exactly how you imagined them to be?

Very rarely.

But on this occasion…

I was looking at this cover the other day – prompted to do so by the wonderful Kate Walker’s new book THE RETURN OF THE STRANGER (a must read for anyone who hasn’t read it yet). I knew I had had a similar title. First of all the eyes captured me – they looked the same – as though they were brother and sister.

After briefly reacquainting myself with the book – which was published in 1983 after all – I realised that I had mentioned that my hero and heroine had more than once been mistaken for brother and sister.

So well done the artist on this occasion.

In a book I’ve just finished reading the heroine had short black hair – but on the cover she had long, dark brown hair tied up in a chignon.

For me it spoilt the image.

How about you? Do you care whether the cover photos match the descriptions inside?

Handkerchief Tree

Here’s a couple of intriguing photographs I took of a Handerchief Tree which is apparently a native of China. But I found it here in some public gardens near the east coast of Britain. Isn’t it spectacular?

Cosford Air Museum

How often do you get free fun? Free entertainment?

We took our eldest grandson to Cosford Air Museum on Saturday. It’s totally free to go in and there are three huge hangars which house warplanes, missiles, tanks, etc. One is a Cold War hangar with interactive stuff for the children. So much to see.

We spent several hours there. I was prepared not to enjoy it but I did. I couldn’t believe how huge some of the planes are when you see them close up. When you stand underneath them! Definitely a good place to go.

There was an art gallery as well – some of the paintings were magnificent. I took my camera but do you know what, I never used it. I never thought about it. I was too enthralled in everything around me.

There was nothing romantic about it, so I find it very different today settling back to my current wip.

Heroines

On Saturday I saw a future heroine! The first time I’ve ever seen one in the flesh. We had gone to an outdoor function with my daughter and little grandson and this young woman came striding across in front of us. I say striding because she was tall, very tall, with long, long legs. And slender. Her hips swayed, her thick, dark hair swayed, and she was quite beautiful. But completely unaware of it.
Her image, however, has stayed with me. I can see myself using this image in the opening lines of a new book. It’s totally different from seeing photographs in a magazine, or on tv or the internet.
How about you – have you ever seen someone you thought would make a good heroine – or hero?
