Comic books

  • Posted on August 31, 2011 at 2:02 pm

A lady posted a comment on a site the other day about my 1996 book POWERFUL PERSUASION in the comic form Manga series. But not the usual comment whether she liked or disliked the story. Instead she was overjoyed to learn that it was a ‘one shot’ as she called it, saying it was a refreshing change to read a Manga that began and ended within sixty or so pages instead of several volumes.

It certainly got me wondering about other much longer books…..

You’ve heard of the lonely little petunia in the onion bed. Well, here’s my lonely – er, not so little sunflower. It seemed to suddenly appear. I’d seen this green leafy stem growing but had forgotten I’d planted sunflowers a few years ago. Which failed miserably. So I watched this thing growing to see what happened.

And here is the result.

One single beautiful flower, complete with wasp.

We have a wasps’ nest in our garden which is rather unsettling, but I understand they don’t use the same nest year after year. If anyone knows differently? We had a wasps’ nest in our attic some years ago and had it removed by the local council. My DH is allergic to wasp stings – he had a bad reaction many years ago and steers clear now when there’s any around.

Voices

DH and grandson were watching a war film in which I had not the slightest interest – until I heard THE VOICE.
Jude Law!
In one particular scene he was talking low and meaningful – like in the film The Holiday.
I imagine my hero talking like that to my heroine. It sends shivers down my spine. I want to meet him – I want to experience THE VOICE first hand.

Whose voice does it for you?

BOOK TITLES

Carrying on with my last post about titles – here’s a little play on some of my older ones:

My heroine was AFRAID TO LOVE  but became THE UNWILLING WIFE in a MISTAKEN MARRIAGE.  It  was a very STORMY AFFAIR but then she came into an UNEXPECTED INHERITANCE and although she was TRAPPED in her marriage, in a very IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION, she became a DETERMINED LADY.  Hating her husband’s UNGENTLEMANLY BEHAVIOUR she began to play a DANGEROUS GAME  fuelled by A COMPELLING FORCEYESTERDAY’S DREAMS were over and she was filled with A BURNING DESIRE to escape.  She had been an INNOCENT BRIDE but now her eyes were wide open and she went on a DANGEROUS JOURNEY to THE EMERALD COAST.   By escaping HER WEALTHY HUSBAND she eventually found peace

Feelings

I was thinking the other day about all of my back books – which one was my favourites – and this is what I came up with:

FEELINGS

It was published in 1988 and is about Melissa who was jilted on the eve of her wedding. She swore that she would never trust a man again. And it certainly wouldn’t be someone like the arrogant Burton Benedict! He was her aunt’s business partner and since Melissa was now going to be working for her aunt, and since her aunt was going away on business for a few weeks…..

You get the picture?

It’s such a short title, isn’t it, compared to today’s. But it encompasses exactly what the book was about.

What do you feel about titles?
