The Waiting Game

While I’m waiting to hear from my ed about the new synopsis I’ve been doing very little as far as writing is concerned. I’ve been catching up with other stuff instead, like visiting relatives, and doing a little Christmas shopping. Yes, I know it’s early, but all I’ve done is pick gifts up as I’ve seen them instead of traipsing around the shops wondering what to buy for a particular person. If only I could do them all that way? Do you enjoy Christmas shopping? Do you do it early, or wait until the last minute when the shops are busy and everyone’s in the holiday mood?

    You are not alone….

I too pick up stuff as I see it throughout the year (preferably on sale, mind you). I don't necessarily go looking for an item, but often see something that should be "just right" for "so-and-so". I also stock up on birthday/anniversary cards, filing away under the month that person's birthday falls and noting on my calendar that it is already bought. (One can never have too many 40th, 50th, 60th, etc. generic birthday cards on hand for those "I forgot" moments, too.)

No, I can't say that I enjoy Christmas shopping per se. I enjoy the music, but shopping doesn't do it for me. I'd rather be home.

So … by the time December 1st rolls around, I check to see for whom I still need to buy things, write down those names and possible ideas, and then look the next time I'm out doing my grocery shopping for the week. (I never make special trips.)

The only last-minute Christmas shopping has been for our parents, who just bought what they needed throughout the year. It got easier the last few years when we just had the one parent left, as we bought her consumable items (since she has enough junk in her seniors' apartment). Could be trickier this year, as she's in a nursing home. (Note to self: start thinking of possible gift ideas NOW! Thanks for the reminder!)

I try to avoid the last minute rush because people don't so much get into a festive mood as hysterical here. You need your battle armour to navigate the crowds. I try to buy things throughout the year as I find them too but I do love shopping with all the decorations!

Laney4 and Lacey, it looks as though we're all of the same minds when it comes to Christmas shopping.
