Margaret Mayo, Romance Author

The waiting is over and it was not good news. My ed had grave reservations about my synopsis – so it’s back to the drawing board. We talked over some ideas and I’m going to spend the weekend fleshing them out and hopefully get back to her early next week. I suppose the fact that the story had gone no further in my mind during the waiting period should have told me that it wasn’t a brilliant idea in the first place. Nevertheless it’s disappointing.

I didn’t realise that you had to submit a synopsis and wait for your editors approval before you wrote the book. Shows how little I know! Sorry that your editor had reservations about the synopsis you submitted. I have every confidence that you’ll come up with a cracking next book.

Chris, It hadn’t used to happen this way in the earlier days of my writing career and I’m not sure everyone does it. But I certainly feel it’s far better to get editorial approval so that I don’t head off in a direction she doesn’t approve of.

Very wise, Margaret. Far better not to waste precious time and energy, that would be frustratiing.
